Responsibilities include:

• Communicate metallurgical standards and specifications for plants, suppliers, and customers.

• Conceive, plan, and lead the technical portion of heat treat, forging, and bearing materials supplier development with Purchasing/Supplier Quality Development.

• Perform metallurgical audits of suppliers including forging and heat treat processes.

• Analyze results obtained from the tests performed. This requires arranging test data in a logical sequence, while compiling additional information. Upon inspection of the test data, researched information, independent calculations, and educated assumptions of missing or nonexistent information, probable causes are selected. Confer with other experts and correlations with historical information/data to concur on the best possible root cause of the problem.

• Provide technical direction for evaluation and implementation of new or modified heat treat processes. Lead resolution of bearing metallurgical quality issues in the Timken plants and with suppliers.

• Perform independent project work as requested by customers via sales and service associates, plant personnel, and/or Research & Development associates.

Qualifications:

• Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering or related field with minimum of 7 years related experience OR
• Masters degree in Metallurgical/Materials Engineering or related field with minimum 5 years of related experience.  

• Previous experience in heat treat, forging, casting with specific knowledge of bearing heat treat equipment and process as well as experience in supplier development and auditing with specific knowledge of ISO9000.

• Preferred License or Certification in Auditor ISO 9000 is preferred. 

• Metallurgical process development and equipment selection experience necessary with damage analysis experience and ability to read microstructure of heat treated steels.

• Experience with customer service and supplier development as well as knowledge of CQI-9 and ISO 9000 are necessary.

• Develop detailed metallurgical/quality reports.  May be required to present work to large groups of people.
• Must be able to develop power point presentations and present to small groups

• Establish/maintain relations with customer representatives in quality related activities, including source inspection, audits and process surveys.
